This Bakota Reliquary Hoe is a rare find. Handmade of wood wrapped in brass, with the hoe blade made of steel, this ceremonial hoe is used by the the Bakota people of Congo and Gabon to dig the graves of their deceased. It measures 23 inches tall, and 8 inches wide at the blade. The well-known Bakota Reliquary Guardian face, which guards the grave from malicious spirits, is featured on both sides of the handle, empowering it to frighten spirits from both directions.
